Acai Bowl Cooking Class with Karima from Karima’s Kitchen

An Acai Bowl is made from acai berries that are native to Central and South America. Some studies show that acai fruit pulp is even richer in antioxidants than most berries. There are many health benefits to acai, especially if eaten in the form of an acai bowl, which has yoghurt, bananas, berries and nuts, topped with Karima’s crunchy homemade granola. Karima will also have a special tasting of her  gourmet homemade pickles, relishes and jams. Our community vegetable gardens are designed to bring people together, and offer fresh produce to our clients and the broader community. Come and leave your mark in the garden and watch your handy work blossom.

We’ll be returning to the popular Sharing Project, where we bring along a few of our favourite things: songs; family treasures; recipes; photos; stories. We will also hold a book, seed, cuttings and produce swap. Plus there will be live music on the day!!! Feel free to just bring yourself if you prefer. The team from Home Based Therapy (Concord Hospital) will also be sharing information about the services they provide. This includes a range of specialist therapies available to you; such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition and speech therapy.

Kokedama is an ancient Japanese technique (meaning moss ball), where a plant’s root system is bound with moss and string, transforming it into a mini work of art.

Nursing Museum

Something a little different. Join us for a VIP tour of the Nursing Museum at Concord Hospital. The Museum collects, preserves, displays and researches objects, material and information relating to Australian military nursing and the early history of Concord Repatriation General Hospital. It has an interesting collection of nursing uniforms dating to the Boer War. There is also a document collection consisting of diaries, personal papers, photographs and memorabilia of military nurses from the 1890’s through to the Vietnam War.

Followed by lunch in the 5 Senses Garden.
